Why Deploying Your GhostTi Feels Different at First (And How to Master It)

If you’ve recently received your GhostTi and found that deploying the blade feels a little different than other knives you’ve used, you’re not alone.

In fact, this is one of the most common questions we hear from new customers.

So let’s talk about why it feels this way, why it’s intentional, and how to quickly get comfortable using your GhostTi.

Watch Our Updated “While You Wait” Video

To make this even easier, we’ve created an updated “While You Wait” video that walks you through:

  • Blade deployment

  • Blade storage

  • Blade swapping

  • Common mistakes to avoid

Step by step.

If you’re new to the GhostTi, we highly recommend watching it once. Most customers find that everything clicks immediately after seeing it in action.

A Common First-Time Experience

Many first-time users tell us the same thing:

“I love the knife, but it feels tricky to open at first.”

That’s completely normal.

The GhostTi is designed differently than most utility knives on purpose.

And that reason is safety.

Why the GhostTi Uses a Dual-Lock System

When designing the GhostTi, safety was the top priority.

That’s why every GhostTi uses two independent locking systems:

  • A mechanical lock

  • A magnetic lock

These two systems work together to prevent accidental blade deployment.

Whether the knife is in your pocket, in a bag, or being handled by someone unfamiliar with it, the blade stays secure until you intentionally release it.

Even if you disengage the mechanical lock while holding the tool upside down, the blade will not fall out. The magnet is still holding it in place.

This extra layer of protection is what makes the GhostTi feel more secure than most knives, especially in everyday carry situations.

It’s also what makes the first few uses feel different.

Why It Feels Challenging at First

Most utility knives rely on a single lock or gravity-based deployment. The GhostTi does not.

Because both locks must be managed properly, there is a specific motion required to deploy and store the blade.

Until you learn that motion, it can feel unfamiliar.

That doesn’t mean anything is wrong with your knife.

It means it’s working exactly as designed.

Once you understand the movement, it becomes fast, natural, and repeatable.

The Correct Way to Deploy the Blade

To deploy your GhostTi:

  1. Place your thumb directly on the blade

  2. Place your index finger on the mechanical beam

  3. Gently flex the beam upward

  4. While keeping it disengaged, slide the blade forward

The key is keeping the mechanical lock disengaged for the entire time the blade is moving.

If you release it too early, the blade will stop.

With a little practice, this motion becomes second nature.

How to Store the Blade Safely

To store the blade:

  1. Hold the tool vertically

  2. Place your thumb on the top bar

  3. Flex the mechanical beam out of the way

  4. Allow the blade to slide back into the body

Once fully seated, the magnet grabs the blade and locks it in place automatically.

Again, keeping the mechanical lock disengaged while the blade is moving is the key.

Blade Swapping Uses the Same Motion

If you plan to swap blades, the process is very similar.

To remove a blade:

  • Disengage the mechanical lock

  • Slide the blade forward

  • Continue pulling it out through the front

To reinstall:

  • Slide the blade in until it contacts the lock

  • Flex the beam

  • Guide the blade past the lock

  • Hold vertically and let it drop into place

Once seated, the magnet secures it.
